The Kilpi cross-country ski camp #1
05. 01. 2019
The first Kilpi cross-country skiing camp went well. On Friday, 28th December, 8 enthusiastic people (2 girls, 3 women and 3 men), who wanted to improve their cross-country skiing, met at the Černohorský Express cable car. To begin with, they received the "Kilpi-MaChr" package, comprising of a cravat, headband and tickets for the cable car.
All participants chose the classical style. In the morning, general training in skiing was in progress. It is necessary for a person to learn how to stand on skis. He or she got used to sliding on the skis (our brain perceives skidding and sliding as a potential danger and subconsciously refuses to do it, so we have to persuade the CNS that there is nothing to fear). This practice included a lot of fun within a game format and simple and safe downhill skiing. Games break the psychological barrier to our shyness.
At lunchtime, besides a short lecture on cross-country ski wax, we discussed training, food and nutrition and just about life. I am convinced that if one feels that the instructor does not have an interest in him or her, then teaching is not so effective. Yes, an individual approach comes first.
After lunch, we had to wax our skis and used a red klister on the wet snow. We set out boldly on the ski track. The camp participants made great progress and 2 hours of skiing in the afternoon passed in no time. And everyone was looking forward to the next day.
On Saturday, the Guardian, Rübezahl, sent us moist snow, which is a nightmare of many professional servicemen. "To hit" the right wax was difficult and we had to fix it a few times. All participants acquit themselves well and despite the noticeable fatigue, they made progress. Experienced skiers were looking for lesser nuances in technique, less experienced tried real skiing stances.
At lunch, the participants saw themselves on video and got feedback from their instructor. In the afternoon, we set out in the vast and spiky terrain of the Černá hora mountain and took a short trip to practice the style we have just learnt. Most participants are going to Jizerská 50, so we perhaps helped them to run their race in as short a time period as possible!
The first course is behind us, but the other three ones are ahead of us.
